one fine hot nite
in a steamy wet july
i married
a dark dragon.
we had courted for a long time
and,
if i may say,
i think we made
a lovely couple.
he was gleaming, his black scales reflecting
rainbows and white
his sleepy green eyes
hooded
but he quietly sang around his teeth
so only i could hear.
early that evening i pulled his long mane back
and tied it with a black ribbon.
and he scooped up some stars
in his tail
and sprinkled them on my head
for no veil would i wear
what do i have to hide?
i was no
blushing bride
i was not shy
that steamy fine nite
in july
for we had courted a long time.
i wore a pale dress
in the mermaid style
that hugged my body so tightly
i had to bind up my invisible wings
before i could put it on.
i held red roses
in trembling hands
and sang around my teeth to the sleepy-eyed dragon
so only he could hear.
the guests were jolly and gay
the grrrls wore red and white
and all the boyz in black
after the ceremony i cried
and someone caught my tears
in a champagne glass
then threw them up to the sky--
you can see them sometimes
on a fine
july nite.
we all drank a fine champagne
slightly tinged to pink
the food was spare and elegant
because we all preferred to drink
the grrls waved fans
and the boyz blew smoke
as we all stood still and silent
on the old manse's porch
listening
to the
ode to joy
there was no dancing
that fine july nite
because i could not bear
any more
happiness.
and in a pool of stars
we drowned ourselves
our glorious communion
sealed with blood and fate
one dark dragon
and a fallen seraph
joined
