Evening star beckons, burning soul bright
But lacking my wings, what path can I take?
Blackened toes point, I try to take flight--
Other dark things do fly through the night
But I want to soar for my own selfish sake,
Failing to reach the ambient light.
Reflecting the earth, fair heaven's a sight
I see through the stars in the wavelet's wake
Blackened toes point, I try to take flight--
Too stubborn to give up this singular fight
Trembling with tension, I snap and I break,
Failing to reach the ambient light.
A few inches up, but as from a height
I stumble, I slip, I drown in the lake
Blackened toes point, I try to take flight--
Failing to reach the ambient light.
